Verwant en Risico
Wat Aanvullend onderzoek Nog Toevoegt
VERWANT (the Dutch word for ‘related’) is a scientific study conducted by the VU Medical Center, together with other participating hospitals.
This research aims to benefit consanguineous couples (partners who are related). We are investigating the risk they have of having a child with certain rare diseases. These diseases are called autosomal recessive disorders. With this research we would like to test a method which can predict whether consanguineous couples have a high, or a low risk for a child with such a disorder.
We ask participants for information on the health of their relatives. Also, we collect saliva samples from the couple for DNA testing. We will provide extensive information in advance, before people decide whether or not they want to participate.
